Kirsten Stewart is Annoying AF, And She’s Not Even In This Film.

I have so much love for Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain. They are my favorite actresses ever and I seriously just love them to death. To see them in one film is just an inspiring treat. And Charlize Theron is as brilliant as ever. She’s literally the definition of gorgeous.

Now, Snow White and the Hunstman when it was released a few years back, wasn’t that bad, but it was also not good. Kirsten Stewart, though beautiful as Snow White, took her stony Bella Swan acting to a beloved princess and ruined it. It was Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth who ran that film.

This film however, is both a prequel and a sequel. We find Ravena pretty much alive, and Emily Blunt brought Elsa to life. It is possible that they were inspired by Elsa the ice queen, as Frozen was released when production for this was about to start. I may be wrong, but it’s too good to be true. Emily Blunt is so charming that she could never ever play a villain. She can be bitchy, yes, but never evil. I believe I already said that Chris Hemsworth acting is always the same for everything he’s done do far. That’s not good, but that’s how he is so we just need to make do with him.
I adore Jessica Chastain so bad. I love her on The Help, Zero Dark Thirty, and she was Cooper’s Murph on Interstellar, which is by the way, my favorite movie ever. She’s one hell of an actress.
The plot however, although sincere and pretty straightforward, fails to deliver. I really cannot put my finger on why but it’s just dull and uninspiring. If the characters were played by different actors this would’ve suck big time. So that’s probably why they’re chosen.
The winner on this one is of course, the very eccentric, talented, Oscar winner Colleen Atwood and her gorgeous costume design. Why so genius? She definitely outdone herself with this one and her designs just made my eye popped. Not only the queen’s costume but even the supporting characters.
Overall, Hunstman Winter’s War is saved from it’s dull plot by a stellar cast, and the only good thing about this movie other than the cast’s effort is that Kirsten Stewart is not in it.

Why Is This Movie Funny? It’s Not Supposed To be Funny. The Martian Movie Review

Same time last year another movie like this was released. It is also about space travel, and it involves Matt Damon too, as well as the effort to rescue him from something. That’s Interstellar. I thought they are somehow related. Yes and no.

Interstellar was so depressing. Depressingly good, and is probably one of my favorite films of all time. I was worried about the comparison, that somehow The Martian will compete with Interstellar and I was worried that it will win. Turns out they’re different. Ridley Scott have adapted the book to this funny, wickedly entertaining movie that you will forget the joylessness of Christopher Nolan.

Same cast, without Matthew McConaghuey. Well, that’s only Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon. Jeff Daniels is here, and Kristen Wiig, with Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Michael Peña and a host of others. Mark Watney was left behind and assumed dead, but with the power of human survival instinct he managed to survive long enough to figure out how he can go back home.

The internet made no excuse in pointing out how Matt Damon managed himself to get into roles the require the world’s resources to rescue him. He was the Private Officer who needed saving, the scientists stuck in a planet and was repeated here. Only this time he really deserved being saved, against all odds.

It is so shocking to see this movie as a funny one. It’s not comedy, but it became unbelievably light, thanks to the humor of Damon’s character, as well as those who were on earth. I didn’t expect that at all. Sometimes I thought it was unnecessarily funny, but I wonder why the drama needed to be toned down despite the complexity of the issue at hand. But it managed to work itself out. I’m very impressed.

This is one of the best performances by Matt Damon. He seemed comfortable and at his element the whole time. Splendid supporting actors headed by Jeff Daniels as the Director of NASA. And really nice to see Kristen Wiig and Jessica Chastain.

Top-Notch effects. You get a little bit of nostalgia from Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity at the final scenes. And one more thing that surprised me, aside from the humor, is the disco music. So much Gloria Gaynor going on all over.

The movie asks the question, is it worth saving one man’s life at the expense of others? Maybe if you’re stuck on a barren planet, the answer is yes. There is human spirit vibrating all throughout the film. After all, we are just one race, and despite our differences we can gather together to save our own. China was redeemed in this movie. Hopefully in the real-life setting too.

Surprisingly funny and light, The Martian offers amazing performances specially from Matt Damon. Visually stunning, and elegantly executed, we have one of Ridley Scott’s masterpieces at hand.

Interstellar Movie Review

Interstellar Movie Review

I would like to start in saying that this movie is the movie I am most excited for for this year. We have all been waiting for Christopher Nolan’s film after the successful Dark Knight Trilogy and the critically acclaimed ‘inception.’

You know what to expect in watching a movie by Nolan. You will be left with so many questions that will leave you eager for the answers. Basically you will be left hanging, but you know you have been provided enough to answer your own questions. This is a mark of masterful filmmaking that is so rare these days. God bless Nolan for this.

Interstellar stars Matthew McConaughey, Ann Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and well, the one that is always present in Nolan’s films, Michael Caine. In the distant future our Earth will be at the brink of dying and Cooper, played by McConaughey is tasked to save us all. Saving our world requires leaving our galaxy into another through a wormhole. All of this is to find another planet that can inhabit humans thus preventing extinction. There is a lot of science that comes along with this mission, but you get  the picture. Whether he was able to save humankind is up for you to find out by watching this movie yourself.

The main drama is how Cooper needs to leave her only daughter Murphy, and this  is basically what drove Cooper as a character to finish his mission in order to come back to his daughter. Hathaway, as Caine’s daughter, is focused on fulfilling the mission to find the planet that will salvage our dying earth. Solid acting from the both of them, but I got to admit, all their interaction, on the spaceship anyway, reminded me of Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity.

It is very refreshing to see Jessica Chastain, playing a character I’d rather not say as it will spoil the movie’s  plot, but it is worth noting the short appearance of Matt Damon. But yes, he is kinda ass on this one.

You are probably thinking that since this is an adventure through galaxies, that you will be blown away  by visual effects of the stars and what not. The way it was depicted is something like making it second nature. In fact, I felt it was an another  character deep in doubt and mystery. Visual effects means nothing if it is made for us just to see, it is more compelling if it will make you feel what you see. They did this very well.

I’m gonna have to admit that I have been disappointed in Hans Zimmer’s work lately (Amazing Spider Man 2 anyone?), but he always have this knack of creating a theme, mostly strong in strings, that is unique of that movie. You can tell the comfort in the music that is projected in this movie, of how comfortable Zimmer is working with Nolan after all these years.

As the drama evolves on Cooper’s family, it is the kind of drama that draws you to your own personal drama. At the end, I believe this will affect each one differently.

Interstellar is a masterpiece. I have learned over the years that in a movie, sometimes it doesn’t matter what the story is, it is how it is told. It is ambitious in every way, and in this galaxy or not, Interstellar shines.
